New Delhi, June 6: Following a series of cyber attack attempts on the CBSE post-result services portal, the Delhi Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) on Friday. The case was filed by the police’s Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit after a complaint from the board. The FIR was lodged under relevant sections of the Information Technology (IT) Act.
The CBSE reported that it faced multiple coordinated and technically sophisticated cyber attacks targeting its post-result services portal, which is crucial for millions of students across the country. This portal allows students to apply for result verification, re-evaluation, and other post-result services.
Fortunately, despite these attacks, there was no breach of any data, systems, or databases of the CBSE. The board clarified that its entire digital infrastructure remains secure, with no incidents of data leakage or unauthorized access reported.
According to reports, the cyber attack attempts began on June 2, coinciding with the start of the application process for verification and re-evaluation. The portal was operational from 7 AM and continued to function normally throughout the day, with students not facing any service disruptions.
Initial investigations revealed that the attackers aimed to destabilize the portal, disrupt access for legitimate users, and unlawfully obtain information. The CBSE has deemed these attacks potentially harmful to national interests.
Given the severity and organized nature of the attacks, the board has requested a detailed investigation from the IFSO unit and stringent legal action against the perpetrators.
The CBSE reported that all attacks were thwarted with the help of a 24-hour monitoring and rapid response system. During this period, technical support was also provided by IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, Digital India Corporation, the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team, and other cybersecurity agencies of the central government.
