New Delhi, March 16: Residents of Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) can expect partly cloudy skies and a possibility of light drizzle on Sunday, as per the latest forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Temperatures across the region have recorded an upward shift over the last 24 hours, with the maximum and minimum temperatures rising by approximately 2 degrees Celsius.

On Saturday, Delhi recorded maximum temperatures ranging between 34 to 36 degrees Celsius, whereas minimum temperatures hovered between 18 to 19 degrees Celsius, marking an increase of 4 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average for minimum temperatures, and nearly 7 degrees Celsius above normal maximum temperatures.
Clear Skies to Give Way to Cloudy Conditions
Delhi-NCR witnessed mainly clear skies with light winds blowing from the southeast at speeds less than 12 km/hr in the past 24 hours. By Saturday afternoon, wind directions shifted towards the northeast with speeds recorded up to 14 km/hr. According to Dr. Soma Sen Roy, a senior scientist at IMD, weather conditions in North Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, along with adjoining areas of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and East Uttar Pradesh, will witness thunderstorms accompanied by rain and hailstorms.
Sunday Weather Outlook for Delhi-NCR
For Sunday, weather officials have predicted partly cloudy skies with the possibility of very light drizzle in certain areas of Delhi-NCR. Morning fog and misty conditions might also be prevalent. Winds are expected to pick up pace, blowing at speeds ranging from 25 to 35 km/hr during the day. Maximum temperatures are likely to remain between 31 to 33 degrees Celsius, and minimum temperatures are expected to settle between 16 to 18 degrees Celsius.
Clearer Skies Expected on Monday
By Monday, clear skies are expected to return to Delhi-NCR, though morning hours might still experience foggy conditions. Surface winds will continue at speeds between 25 to 35 km/hr. Temperatures on Monday are forecasted to remain slightly cooler, with maximum temperatures around 30 to 32 degrees Celsius and minimum temperatures ranging from 16 to 18 degrees Celsius.
Surface winds early in the day will predominantly blow from the northwest at 6 to 8 km/hr, gradually increasing to speeds of 14 to 16 km/hr by the afternoon, before slowing down again in the evening hours.
Weather Conditions Across Other States
IMD has warned of severe heatwave conditions likely in Odisha from March 15 to 18. Similar heatwave conditions will prevail in Saurashtra and Kutch from March 15 to 17, Jharkhand, West Bengal’s Gangetic plains, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, and North Telangana on March 15 and 16, and later extending to North Interior Karnataka around March 18 and 19.
Meanwhile, Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand will experience thunderstorms, hailstorms, and strong winds (speeds of 30 to 40 km/hr) until March 16. The Himalayan regions—including Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand—are expected to witness heavy rainfall and snowfall, with intensity gradually reducing after March 16.
