Gandhinagar, September 9 (Udaipur Kiran) : The Gujarat Assembly’s ninth session commenced in Gandhinagar on September 9, 2026, with a solemn tribute to five late legislators from both current and previous terms. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel led the assembly in honoring these leaders, reflecting on their public service and contributions to the state.
During the first day of the session, CM Patel presented a motion of condolence for the deceased leaders, which included current assembly member Yogesh Patel, former minister Mohansingh Rathwa, and former state ministers Lalit Kumar Patel, Popatlal Patel, and Sunilbhai Gavit. Expressing his sorrow, the Chief Minister recalled their dedicated work as public representatives.
Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, along with state ministers and members of the ruling and allied parties, also expressed their condolences, remembering the significant contributions of these leaders. Following the tributes, a two-minute silence was observed in the assembly to honor their memories.
This condolence motion was part of the initial proceedings of the three-day assembly session, which is scheduled to run from September 9 to September 11. The session marks the ninth gathering of the 15th Gujarat Assembly. Prior to the session, a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee was held under the chairmanship of Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, discussing legislative activities and the agenda for various bills.
Attendees included CM Bhupendra Patel, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Rishikesh Patel, Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai, senior minister Kurjibhai Bawaliya, Congress Legislative Party leader Tushar Chaudhary, and Deputy Leader of the House Shailesh Parmar. Government spokesperson Jitu Vaghani stated that the committee discussed the order of bills to be presented during the three-day session.
The state government has listed nine bills for consideration during this session, covering topics such as agricultural universities, natural farming science, rental regulations, animal and poultry feed regulation, land revenue, prevention of fragmentation of agricultural land, secondary and higher secondary education, ease of doing business, and matters related to the Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Throughout the three-day session, the state government will present these bills for discussion, while the opposition is also preparing to raise various issues. The final order of legislative proceedings will be determined by the Assembly Speaker and announced in the house.
