Youth Focuses on Skill Development Over Degrees: Dharmendra Pradhan

Jaipur, May 2: The Rajasthan government signed several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with institutions including the English and Foreign Languages University in Hyderabad and the National Skill Development Corporation during the ‘Foreign Language Communication Skills Program’ held at the Birla Auditorium in Jaipur on Friday.

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan highlighted the natural abilities of Rajasthan’s youth in hard work, innovation, entrepreneurship, and cultural adaptation. Inspired by Prime Minister Modi, today’s youth are focusing on skill development rather than just degrees.

He mentioned that the proposed free trade agreement with the European Union would open new employment opportunities for youth proficient in foreign languages. Language is not just a medium of communication but also a means to understand and connect with society.

Pradhan stated that the National Education Policy 2020 is a significant step towards building a developed India, emphasizing multilingual and global education. Learning languages such as French, German, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish will enhance job opportunities for youth. Language serves not only as a communication tool but also as a powerful connector of society.

He expressed confidence that Rajasthan’s folk traditions, such as the tales of Prithviraj Chauhan, would gain global recognition through translations into foreign languages. There are vast employment opportunities in countries like Japan and Korea, and language skills can open doors in fields such as technology, business, and marketing.

State Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary noted that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the emphasis on the mother tongue in early education has been prioritized. Local languages preserve cultural heritage, boost confidence, and strengthen emotional connections, while foreign languages enhance global communication skills.

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma pointed out that previous government scandals like paper leaks had severely affected the youth. The current government has liberated youth from this issue, conducting 351 examinations with complete transparency and no paper leaks.

He emphasized that the government is transforming youth from job seekers to job creators. Referring to Swami Vivekananda, the Chief Minister urged youth to learn foreign languages and advance on national and global platforms.

He added that under the Prime Minister’s vision for skill development, the state government has made agreements that will allow youth to learn languages such as French, German, Spanish, Japanese, and Korean. In today’s global age, learning foreign languages has become essential, providing opportunities in multinational companies, international institutions, and abroad. This knowledge serves as a strong link between foreign tourists, investors, and local industries.

Discussing the tourism potential of Rajasthan, he noted that knowledge of foreign languages is particularly beneficial for a state that attracts tourists from around the world. Government policies are rapidly boosting tourism, creating job opportunities for guides, hotel managers, travel agents, and entrepreneurs who know foreign languages.
