Raj Thackeray Criticizes Governments Indifference on Maharashtra Day Celebrations

Mumbai, May 2: Raj Thackeray, the leader of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), has accused the state government of adopting a ‘half-hearted’ approach towards the Maharashtra Day celebrations. After paying tribute at the Martyrs’ Memorial in Hutatma Chowk, Thackeray expressed his dissatisfaction on social media, stating that the government treats Maharashtra Day merely as a formality. He has been troubled for years by the government’s attitude, which he believes reduces the celebration of Maharashtra Day to a mere official ritual rather than a festival of state pride.

Thackeray pointed out that the Hutatma Memorial in Mumbai was not properly decorated, highlighting a clear display of government indifference throughout the event. He questioned whether the state government was avoiding large-scale celebrations of Maharashtra Day to prevent displeasing central leaders. Thackeray sarcastically asked if the government feared that a grand celebration would upset prominent leaders in Delhi.

He alleged that if it were a program for another community or a special event, the streets would be adorned with carpets and lights, yet the day associated with Maharashtra and Marathi identity was being celebrated with sadness. Thackeray also raised concerns about whether there is an attempt to distance Marathi people from the significance of the Hutatma Memorial, expressing worries about the apathy of both the government and the general public.

He emphasized that the Hutatma Memorial should be regarded as a pilgrimage site for every citizen of the state. Thackeray reminded that the Marathi people built and fought for Mumbai, yet they are now drifting away from their history. He urged the Marathi community to remember the struggles of the united Maharashtra movement and take pride in the tall buildings that symbolize Mumbai as part of Maharashtra.

In conclusion, Thackeray appealed to the Marathi people of Mumbai and Maharashtra to gather in large numbers at the Hutatma Memorial next year on May 1, to compel the government to give the day its rightful respect.
