Gandhinagar, May 2: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel held a one-on-one meeting with Singapore’s High Commissioner to India, Simon Wong, during the VIGRC event in Surat. Wong noted that Singapore’s investments in Gujarat have been steadily increasing, with significant contributions to the GIFT City project. He expressed confidence that GIFT City will emerge as a hub for USD-INR bond issuance in the coming years.
The High Commissioner shared his thoughts on establishing data centers in GIFT City and developing a sandbox for new AI fintech and data localization initiatives. He emphasized Singapore’s eagerness to collaborate with India, which is evolving as a data and financial hub.
Chief Minister Patel highlighted the ease of doing business in the state, attributing it to the favorable system that attracts both domestic and international investors to Gujarat. Wong congratulated the Chief Minister on the occasion of Gujarat’s Foundation Day during their meeting.
The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary M.K. Das, Additional Chief Secretary of the Industry and Mines Department Mamta Verma, Additional Chief Secretary of the Finance Department T. Natarajan, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Sanjeev Kumar, Additional Principal Secretary Dr. Vikrant Pandey, Secretary to the Chief Minister Dr. Ajay Kumar, and representatives from Singapore.
