Holder sustained the injury while playing for Worcestershire in the County Championship.

However, the Cricket West Indies release did not specify the nature of the injury or the timeline for his recovery.

Chief selector Desmond Haynes said: “Jason is an experienced player in our set-up. His absence will undoubtedly be felt both on and off the field. We hope to have Jason back with us fully fit soon.”

He further added: “While it is unfortunate to lose a player of Jason’s ability, we have faith in Obed McCoy’s abilities. Obed has shown remarkable skill and promise in his performances, and this opportunity will allow him to showcase his talent on the international stage. We believe he will bring a new and dynamic energy to the team.”

CWI has also named a pool of five reserve players, from which a replacement player will be selected if there are any further injuries to the team in the later stages. The T20 World Cup co-hosts and two-time champions will begin their campaign against Papua New Guinea on June 2.
