Kohli Stresses the Importance of Partnerships in Big Matches

After being named ‘Player of the Match,’ Kohli emphasized the significance of building partnerships, especially in high-pressure knockout games.

“In matches like these, creating pressure on the opposition is crucial, especially in semi-finals and finals. If you stay till the end with wickets in hand, the pressure automatically shifts, and the game becomes easier,” Kohli stated after the victory.

India suffered an early setback at 30 runs, prompting Kohli to take charge of the innings. He anchored the chase with patience and precision, ensuring that India remained on track.

“The conditions were similar to our game against Pakistan. That day, I also played a controlled innings, hitting only seven boundaries. My goal was to adapt to the situation and rotate the strike because, on this pitch, partnerships were the key. My only focus was to keep building useful stands for the team,” Kohli added.

Kohli’s Measured Approach: Singles Over Power-Hitting

Unlike his usual aggressive batting style, Kohli opted for a more measured approach, scoring 56 out of his 84 runs through singles. He hit only five boundaries and no sixes, demonstrating his ability to tailor his game to the match conditions.

Kohli remained composed until the 43rd over, avoiding risky shots. However, in an attempt to accelerate, he tried to hit Adam Zampa’s googly for a six but was caught at long-on.

“I kept myself calm at the crease and focused on taking singles. When a batter takes pride in singles, it means he is batting well and aiming to build long partnerships,” Kohli reflected.

India Awaits Final Opponent

With this victory, India has reached the Champions Trophy final, where they will face the winner of the second semi-final between New Zealand and South Africa, scheduled to be played in Lahore on Wednesday. The highly anticipated final will take place on Sunday in Dubai.

India’s dominant performance in the semi-final, led by Kohli’s calculated innings and strong partnerships, underscores their title ambitions. As the team awaits its next challenger, momentum and confidence remain firmly on their side.
