Ranchi, August 20: Mahua Maaji, a Rajya Sabha MP from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), has voiced strong opposition to the ‘Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill – 2026’. During discussions, she emphasized the need to protect the rights of the state and stated that the party will protest against the central government’s policies in a democratic manner.
Maaji remarked, “The main issue of our meeting was to oppose the Mines and Minerals Amendment Bill 2026. We also discussed the delimitation and certain issues regarding the SIR. We believe that the central government must withdraw the amendment bill. The government had introduced two or three black laws, which faced massive protests from farmers, resulting in several casualties, and eventually, the government had to retract them.”
She further stated, “This bill is likely to cause significant harm to the state. It represents a grave injustice to the indigenous people. Therefore, we all want the government to withdraw it. Movements have already begun in several places, and they have been suppressed. Our party is a movement-oriented party. All members and workers must follow the path shown by Shibu Soren.”
Maaji highlighted that the new bill would adversely affect various welfare schemes of the state government, such as the Manjhi Samman Yojana, which benefits households, housing schemes, and scholarship programs. “We want the government to withdraw this bill and restore the rights and entitlements of the states. The Supreme Court’s nine-judge bench had endorsed this. Do you not respect the Supreme Court’s orders?” she questioned.
Accusing the BJP of pressuring students regarding their demands, she noted that those currently employed are turning to the courts for justice. “The court’s decision is paramount. BJP members have attempted to exert significant pressure along with some students. Some were on hunger strikes, prompting the government to make decisions in the interest of students. The future of students must be considered in light of the political misuse of their movements,” she added.
