India Responds to Islamabads Actions by Removing Barricades Outside Pakistan High Commission

New Delhi, August 20: Significant changes have been made to the security arrangements outside the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi. The Delhi Police have removed traffic bollards and barricades that were previously set up around the diplomatic compound.

These barriers have long been part of the outer security perimeter of the diplomatic premises. This action by India comes at a time when diplomatic relations between New Delhi and Islamabad remain tense.

The move in Delhi is perceived as a response to a recent action by Pakistani officials, who had removed parking poles outside the Indian High Commission in Islamabad a few days earlier. Following this, India has also altered the security arrangements outside Pakistan’s diplomatic mission.

Such administrative countermeasures have been common in the past amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan. Both countries periodically take decisions to reduce the number of diplomatic staff, impose restrictions on movement and access, and limit facilities associated with their missions. Thus, the removal of the outer security perimeter of the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi is considered part of this ongoing cycle.

This development comes amid ongoing diplomatic activities concerning Jammu and Kashmir. During a visit to the region, the U.S. Ambassador to India, Sergio Gore, referred to it as an integral part of India, a statement deemed significant in the current context of India-Pakistan relations. The primary reason for the existing tensions between the two nations remains cross-border terrorism, with support for terrorist activities against India emanating from Pakistani territory.

The deterioration in India-Pakistan relations was further exacerbated following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in April 2025, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
