Kota : Two more students committed suicide in Kota, Rajasthan, the country’s hub for engineers, doctors and civil servants.
NEET, for which Avishkar studied Shobangi, was a common medical school entrance exam. According to police, Adarsh, a student from Bihar, was also killed.
Their deaths pushed the number of suicides this year to 23, the highest since 2018. Kota’s collector, OP Bungkar, was worried and advised the consulting agency not to conduct the test for a month.
Avishkar Shobangi is from Maharashtra and lived with his grandparents in Kota. After passing the exam, he jumped down from the sixth floor of the coaching institute.
The man was taken to a hospital where his death was determined, police said.
Asar Adarsh died by hanging himself in Kannadi. The police are on site.
“The boy studied medicine and his grandparents lived here with him. He had an exam today,” said Darmvil Singh, Head of Education. from the police
According to the data, the suicide rate has increased by 60% since the Covid-19 pandemic, setting an alarming trend.
Few students died during the epidemic. 12 deaths were reported in 2018, up from 10 the previous year. Last year, 15 students died by suicide.
Last week a student was hospitalized after “accidentally” taking 15 fever tablets. One of his friends said he became depressed after getting bad grades on the test.
Kuta dormitories now have spring-loaded fans and “suicide nets” in balconies and lobbies to discourage students from extreme measures.
When asked whether such measures solve the core problem of stress, an official said they also conduct psychological tests and communicate with parents.
The Deputy OP said: “However, measures such as spring fans can help prevent students from struggling in the heat. Even if these efforts fail, students can be counseled or other action taken.” Press Trust, an Indian news outlet, quoted Mr Bunkar as saying.
Every year, more than 200,000 students migrate to Kota to prepare for entrance exams.
