Bikaner, January 7 – As Rajasthan continues to face severe cold wave conditions, district administrations have extended school holidays by 1 to 5 days in 12 districts, including Jaipur, Alwar, Bikaner, and Sawai Madhopur. The decision was made after Director of Secondary Education Ashish Modi authorized district collectors to either extend holidays or change school timings in response to the ongoing cold weather.

Following the directive, several district collectors issued orders extending holidays for students, while teachers are required to report to schools as usual.

Teachers Must Report to Schools
While students enjoy extended holidays, teachers in all affected districts are required to attend schools as usual. The Directorate of Education is expected to issue detailed guidelines for teachers on tasks to be undertaken during this period.
Previously, the state’s education department had declared winter holidays from December 25 to January 5, followed by an official holiday on January 6 for Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti. Schools were scheduled to reopen on January 7, but with the extension of holidays, reopening has now been delayed in several districts.
Board Exam Preparations to Intensify
As schools reopen for senior classes, Class 10 and 12 students will immediately begin preparing for their upcoming board exams. Additionally, students of Class 5 and 8 will gear up for district-level board exams. Teachers are expected to assist students in exam preparation during school hours.
Fog and Low Visibility Disrupt Daily Life
Rajasthan woke up to dense fog on Monday morning, with visibility dropping significantly in several regions, including Jaipur, Kota, Alwar, Dausa, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Churu, and Sikar. The reduced visibility disrupted traffic on highways, with vehicles moving at a snail’s pace. Notably, Nahargarh Fort and Amber Fort in Jaipur were shrouded in thick fog, creating a picturesque yet chilling scene.
Western Disturbance Expected Before Makar Sankranti
According to meteorologists, a Western Disturbance is likely to become active in Rajasthan just before Makar Sankranti. This weather system is expected to bring cloud cover and light to moderate rainfall between January 10 and 12 in parts of Jaipur, Bharatpur, Bikaner, and Ajmer divisions. The cloud cover could provide slight relief from the biting cold, although nighttime temperatures may remain low.
