Jaipur, January 7 – Rajasthan continues to reel under the grip of a cold wave, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a cold-day warning for the next three days across several districts. Northern winds sweeping through Bikaner, Jaipur, and Bharatpur divisions are expected to lower temperatures by 2-3 degrees Celsius, intensifying the chill in these regions. A cold wave alert has been issued for six districts, while schools in four districts have been temporarily closed due to the harsh weather.

No Relief from Cold Wave Until January 11
According to the Jaipur Meteorological Center, cold-day conditions will persist across the state until January 10, with temperatures likely to dip further. A slight change in weather patterns is expected from January 11, with cloud cover and light rainfall anticipated in parts of Rajasthan. The IMD predicts that districts in northern Rajasthan, eastern Bharatpur, and southern Udaipur and Kota divisions may experience mild cold wave conditions between January 8 and 10.
In the past 24 hours, districts such as Sikar, Kota, Chittorgarh, Alwar, Baran, Fatehpur, and Bhilwara recorded a significant drop in maximum temperatures, ranging between 4 and 8 degrees Celsius. On Monday, 13 cities across Rajasthan recorded maximum temperatures below 20 degrees Celsius, with Dholpur experiencing the coldest day at a maximum temperature of 13.2 degrees Celsius.

Several cities reported maximum temperatures well below normal, signaling the severity of the cold wave:

- Karauli: 13.5°C
- Sri Ganganagar: 15.3°C
- Sikar: 17.7°C
- Kota: 18.1°C
- Baran: 16.3°C
- Mount Abu (Sirohi): 15.8°C
- Dausa: 19.2°C
- Fatehpur: 19.5°C
- Hanumangarh: 15.4°C
- Churu: 19.4°C
- Alwar: 14.2°C
- Pilani (Jhunjhunu): 18.6°C
Minimum Temperatures Remain Above Average
Despite the sharp drop in daytime temperatures, minimum temperatures across several cities have been recorded 3 to 5 degrees above average. Cities such as Bhilwara, Pilani, Chittorgarh, Sikar, Phalodi, Churu, and Sri Ganganagar reported above-average nighttime temperatures.
School Closures in Several Districts
In response to the ongoing cold wave, authorities have announced temporary school closures in multiple districts:
- Jaipur: Schools will remain closed on January 7 and 8.
- Alwar: Schools will remain shut from January 7 to 11.
- Kota: Classes from 1 to 9 have been suspended until January 8.
- Khairthal-Tijara: Schools up to Class 8 will remain closed until January 11.
Additionally, in Bikaner, school timings have been altered to accommodate the cold weather conditions.
Rainfall Expected from January 11
IMD has predicted a possible change in weather from January 11, with light to moderate rainfall expected in several parts of the state. The cloud cover is likely to bring slight relief from the ongoing cold wave, though colder mornings may persist in the coming days.
