Rohini Acharya Criticizes Government Over Fuel Price Hike

Patna, May 16: The recent hike in fuel prices has sparked a political controversy, with Rohini Acharya, daughter of Lalu Prasad and a leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), targeting the central government over rising inflation.

In a post on the social media platform X, Acharya criticized the government, stating that the issue extends far beyond a mere increase of ₹3, reflecting the broader pressures of continuously rising inflation.

She highlighted that the escalating fuel prices have turned economic hardship into a daily reality for the common people. “This is not just about a ₹3 increase; it is about the burden of ever-increasing inflation,” she wrote.

Acharya further alleged that the burden of inflation disproportionately affects daily wage workers and ordinary citizens, while the government remains indifferent to their struggles.

She also took aim at the government’s long-standing slogan of ‘Achhe Din’ (Good Days), arguing that while public expenditure continues to rise, there has been no substantial relief or clarification from the government.

According to her, the increase in petrol and diesel prices hits hardest those who earn and consume daily, namely the common people, while the government, which operates at the behest of wealthy industrialists, shows little concern for their troubles.

The rising inflation has impacted the general public across India in various ways, leading to widespread concern over increasing household expenses. Prices of several essential commodities have surged, heightening anxiety among citizens.

This price surge began following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to increase import duties on gold and silver, leading to a spike in gold prices. Subsequently, there were increases in the prices of milk and CNG, and now fuel prices have also been raised.

As of May 15, petrol and diesel prices have increased by more than ₹3 per litre nationwide.
