Fake Doctor Arrested in Sonarpur, West Bengal

Sonarpur, September 15 (Udaipur Kiran) : A fake doctor was apprehended in the Sonarpur area of South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, following a police raid on his clinic. The arrest occurred late Monday night when Vishwarup Acharya, who had been practicing medicine without valid credentials, was found using forged MBBS and FRCS degrees.

According to a senior police official, authorities became suspicious after noticing inconsistencies in Acharya’s qualifications. He had been posing as an oncologist and charging patients ₹800 per visit. Reports indicate that Acharya was operating from eight different locations and had recently opened a clinic in a residential house in the Ghasiyara area of Sonarpur.

The situation came to light when the landlord of the house grew suspicious of Acharya’s activities and alerted the police. In response, law enforcement sent an undercover officer posing as a patient to the clinic, leading to the raid on Monday night. Initial investigations revealed multiple discrepancies in Acharya’s identity and qualifications, resulting in his immediate arrest.

Police believe Acharya had been practicing medicine for an extended period. He was presented in the Baruipur sub-divisional court on Tuesday. Investigators are now looking into how he managed to treat patients for so long and the origins of the fake documents and degrees he used.

A senior police officer stated, “An officer posing as a patient visited Vishwarup’s clinic. It became evident after just a couple of interactions that he was a fake doctor. All of his degrees were fraudulent. An investigation has been initiated to determine the source of these fake degrees and whether a larger criminal network is involved.”
