Kia Carens CNG, Carens Clavis CNG Specs Revealed

New Delhi, September 4: Kia India has officially revealed the specifications of the CNG-powered versions of its 7-seater Carens and Carens Clavis MPVs. Both models will come with a factory-fitted CNG kit paired with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine.

Kia Carens CNG

The CNG versions will feature a 60-litre CNG tank installed beneath the boot floor. The company is expected to announce their prices by the end of September or early October.

The models will compete directly with the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga CNG, which currently has strong demand in the Indian market and remains the segment leader.

60-Litre CNG Tank Reduces Boot Space

The 60-litre CNG tank is positioned below the boot floor, which reduces the available boot space. The petrol-powered versions offered 216 litres of boot space, while the CNG versions will have 116 litres.

Considering the additional weight of the CNG tank, Kia has also retuned the suspension. The front disc brakes have been upgraded, while the underbody-mounted spare wheel has been retained.

CNG Available on Selected Variants

In the Carens Clavis, the factory-fitted CNG kit will be available with the HTE and HTE (O) trims.

In the existing Carens, the CNG option will be available only on the Premium trim.

Both CNG-powered MPVs will be offered with 16-inch wheels.

The older Carens already had a CNG option, but it was previously available only through dealer-level fitment. The new versions will come with a factory-fitted CNG system.

Kia Enters Growing CNG Market

Kia’s entry into the factory-fitted CNG segment comes as demand for CNG vehicles continues to grow in India. CNG accounted for around 22% of total vehicle sales in FY2026, making it the second-most popular fuel after petrol during the period.

Maruti Suzuki remains the market leader in the CNG segment, followed by Tata Motors and Hyundai. Renault and Nissan are also expected to enter the segment with factory-fitted CNG kits on select models.

With the launch of factory-fitted CNG versions of the Carens and Carens Clavis, Kia is set to compete more directly with the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga in India’s 7-seater CNG market.
