Mumbai, September 15 (Udaipur Kiran) : AIMIM national spokesperson Waris Pathan has sharply criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah‘s recent comments regarding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), asserting that the government’s intention is not to promote uniformity and equality but rather to undermine the rights of Muslims. He declared the proposed UCC as completely unconstitutional.
Pathan made these remarks during a press briefing on September 14 in Mumbai, where he also addressed the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) decision to register a First Information Report (FIR) in the Disha Salian case. He stated that the case represents a father’s six-year struggle to prove that his daughter’s death was a murder and not a suicide. Pathan expressed confidence that the CBI would take appropriate action against anyone found guilty, emphasizing the importance of allowing the courts to determine the outcome based on evidence presented.
He urged the media to refrain from conducting a trial by media and to let the facts come to light in court. “If an FIR has been filed, the decision to arrest lies with the CBI. It should not be politicized,” he added, highlighting that the father’s battle has been fought in the courts, guided by judicial directives.
In response to comments made by West Bengal minister Dilip Ghosh regarding madrasa teachers, Pathan advised that understanding the history and contributions of madrasas is essential before making judgments. He also commented on the meeting between DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray, stating that the outcomes of such meetings remain to be seen.
Pathan reiterated his stance on the UCC, arguing that it violates various constitutional articles, including Article 25, which guarantees freedom of religion, and Article 14, which ensures equality. He pointed out that India’s diversity is its essence and that the imposition of a UCC contradicts the pluralism enshrined in the Constitution. He referenced the 21st Law Commission’s report, which stated that the UCC is neither necessary nor required, further supporting his argument against its implementation.
