Two-Hour Reduction in Working Hours Across the Country
Abu Dhabi, March 1, 2025 – The UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has officially announced a two-hour reduction in daily working hours for private sector employees throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
Private sector companies can adopt flexible working arrangements or remote work options, provided they remain within the reduced working hours set for the month, MoHRE clarified.

Public Sector Ramadan Working Hours
Earlier, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) announced adjusted work timings for public sector employees:
📌 Monday to Thursday: 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM
📌 Friday: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Ramadan Start Date & Crescent Sighting
🔭 According to the UAE’s International Astronomy Centre (IAC), Ramadan is expected to begin on Saturday, March 1, as the crescent moon will be easily visible the night before.
📆 On February 28, official moon-sighting committees will convene to confirm the start of Ramadan. If the crescent is sighted, fasting will begin the next day.
Islamic months follow the lunar calendar, lasting either 29 or 30 days, depending on the moon sighting.
UAE’s Commitment to Employee Well-being
The UAE consistently adjusts work schedules during Ramadan to support employee well-being, productivity, and religious observance. These changes align with the nation’s commitment to fostering a balanced work environment while respecting Islamic traditions.
Employers and employees are encouraged to comply with the new working hours and ensure a smooth transition throughout the holy month.
