Jaipur, Rajasthan – Summer has officially arrived in Rajasthan as temperatures breach the 40°C mark in several parts of the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert warning of increased heatwave activity and rising day and night temperatures over the next few days. With Barmer recording a scorching 43.6°C and Phalodi witnessing a warmest night at 25.2°C, conditions are expected to worsen heading into the second week of April.

Six Cities Cross 40°C, Heatwave Likely to Intensify
On Saturday, six cities across Rajasthan recorded daytime temperatures above 40°C. These included Barmer, Phalodi, Chittorgarh, Bikaner, Kota, and Jaisalmer. Weather experts warn that parts of southwestern and eastern Rajasthan could soon see severe heatwave conditions, with maximum temperatures reaching 44–45°C between April 6 and 8.
According to Radheyshyam Sharma, Director of the Meteorological Centre in Jaipur, the state is witnessing mostly dry weather. In the past 24 hours, heatwave conditions were observed in isolated pockets of Barmer and Chittorgarh. Average humidity levels across the state ranged between 18% and 57%, further intensifying the heat.
Day and Night Temperatures Rising Simultaneously
It’s not just the daytime heat; night temperatures are also on the rise, adding to public discomfort. In the last 24 hours, 11 cities, including Ajmer, Alwar, Jaipur, Kota, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Phalodi, Bikaner, Sri Ganganagar, Dholpur, and Dungarpur, reported minimum temperatures above 20°C.
Barmer’s maximum temperature at 43.6°C was 4.5°C above normal, while Chittorgarh followed closely at 41.4°C, also 4.5°C above the average. The IMD projects a further rise of 3–4°C in maximum temperatures across Rajasthan in the next 2–3 days.
Jaipur Sees Mixed Weather Trends
In Jaipur, the maximum temperature dipped slightly, but the minimum temperature continued to climb. On Saturday, Jaipur recorded a high of 38°C (down 0.6°C) and a low of 23°C (up 0.6°C) due to moderate winds during the day. However, hot winds and a rise in temperatures are expected in the city in the coming days.
Heatwave Advisory for the Coming Week
The IMD has forecasted that:
April 6–8 could bring severe heatwave conditions in isolated pockets of southern Rajasthan.
Daytime highs may touch 44–45°C in southwestern Rajasthan, and 42–44°C in eastern districts.
The intensity and spread of the heatwave are expected to increase across the state next week.
