New Zealand Takes Strong Lead Against England at The Oval

London, June 20: New Zealand has strengthened its position against England on the third day of the Test match at The Oval. By the end of the day, New Zealand had scored 252 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in their second innings, establishing a lead of 352 runs. The Kiwi team had a first-innings lead of 100 runs.

New Zealand’s second innings did not start well, with opener and captain Tom Latham dismissed for just 4 runs, followed by Devon Conway who scored 11 runs. However, Henry Nicholls and Rachin Ravindra formed a solid partnership, adding 161 runs for the third wicket, putting the team in a strong position. Ravindra was out for 76 runs, but Nicholls and Mitchell ensured no further wickets fell. At the close of play, New Zealand had 252 runs on the board with Nicholls unbeaten on 119 and Mitchell on 32, having added 63 runs together.

Earlier, England’s first innings was restricted to 291 runs, with Fisher, batting at number nine, remaining not out on 50. Other notable contributions came from Emilio Gay with 53, Joe Root with 46, and Ben Duckett with 36 runs. England trailed New Zealand by 100 runs based on their first innings.

For New Zealand, experienced fast bowler Matt Henry took the most wickets with 5, while Will O’Rourke claimed 2 wickets. Kyle Jamieson and Nathan Smith each took 1 wicket.

In their first innings, New Zealand scored 391 runs, thanks to Glenn Phillips’ maiden Test century, who scored 100 runs off 135 balls, hitting 18 fours. Kyle Jamieson contributed 41 runs, Tom Blundell 51, Rachin Ravindra 33, Tom Latham 27, and Henry Nicholls added 24 runs. The Kiwi team also received 53 extra runs.

For England, Bethel took 3 wickets for 26 runs in 10 overs, while Jofra Archer, Matthew Fisher, and Sonny Baker each took 2 wickets, and Josh Tong took 1 wicket.
