Doha, June 20: Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra finished in fourth place at the Doha Diamond League held at the Suhaim Bin Hamad Stadium. Despite a strong effort, he was unable to secure a spot in the top three. Neeraj’s best throw of the day was 85.69 meters, achieved in his third attempt.
The silver lining for Neeraj is that he has qualified for the Commonwealth Games, as he needed to throw at least 82.61 meters to secure his place. His first throw was a foul, and he managed a throw of 82.77 meters in his second attempt, which confirmed his qualification for the Commonwealth Games.
After the third round, Neeraj was in third place, trailing behind Grenada’s Anderson Peters (86.38 meters) and America’s Curtis Thompson (85.99 meters). However, in his fourth attempt, he threw 83.45 meters, which pushed him out of the top three. Sri Lanka’s Rumes Pathirage took the lead with a throw of 88.68 meters in his fourth attempt.
Neeraj’s fifth attempt was also a foul, preventing him from qualifying for the final round. The final standings saw Rumes Pathirage in first place, followed by Anderson Peters in second, Curtis Thompson in third, and Neeraj Chopra in fourth.
