Nepal SC Forms Constitutional Bench to Hear Petitions Against Interim Government and Parliament Dissolution

Kathmandu, October 29 (Udaipur Kiran) — The Supreme Court of Nepal has accepted 16 petitions challenging the appointment of Prime Minister Sushila Karki and the dissolution of the House of Representatives, terming both moves as unconstitutional. The court has constituted a five-member constitutional bench to hear the matter.

The bench, headed by Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut, includes senior justices Sapana Pradhan Malla, Kumar Regmi, Hari Phuyal, and Manoj Sharma.

According to Supreme Court spokesperson Arjun Prasad Koirala, the initial hearing will focus on petitions seeking to annul the Prime Minister’s appointment, revoke the parliament’s dissolution, and restore the House of Representatives.

Following the Gen-Z movement, several petitions have been filed demanding that former Chief Justice Sushila Karki’s appointment as Prime Minister and the dissolution of parliament be declared unconstitutional. The petitions also seek a review of decisions made by President Ramchandra Paudel.

Some petitions have also objected to the inclusion of former Supreme Court judges as ministers in the interim government, calling it inappropriate and unethical. These petitions will be heard along with the others.

In addition, certain petitions before the constitutional bench seek legal action against former Prime Ministers and Home Ministers for their alleged role in suppressing the Gen-Z movement.
