Bhopal, April 5 — With summer tightening its grip over Madhya Pradesh, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued the season’s first heatwave alert for several districts. The temperature in Narmadapuram and Ratlam has already touched 40°C, while cities like Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur, and Sagar are expected to witness a significant temperature rise of 2°C to 5°C over the next five days.

Heatwave Alert for 7–8 April
According to the IMD, Ujjain, Gwalior, and Chambal divisions are under a heatwave alert for April 7 and 8. Affected districts include:
-
April 7: Neemuch, Mandsaur, Gwalior, Sheopur, Morena, Bhind, and Datia
-
April 8: Neemuch, Mandsaur, Sheopur, Morena, Gwalior, Bhind, Datia, Shivpuri, Guna, and Ashoknagar
These regions may experience hot, dry winds, commonly referred to as loo, making conditions especially harsh during the day.
What’s Causing the Temperature Spike?
The IMD reported that a cyclonic circulation and a western disturbance were active until Friday, leading to scattered cloud cover and light rainfall in cities such as Gwalior, Datia, Bhind, and Sagar. However, this weather system is expected to weaken by Saturday, clearing the path for intense heat across most parts of the state.
Over the next 3–4 days, maximum daytime temperatures are forecasted to rise steadily, marking the onset of peak summer conditions.
