
Shimla, July 14 (Udaipur Kiran): The monsoon has slowed down in Himachal Pradesh. There has been no heavy rainfall in the state for a week. The sun has been shining in the capital Shimla for the past two to three days. The temperature has increased in the plains due to clear skies.
The monsoon had arrived in the state on June 27. After that, the rain continued for about 10 days. But now the monsoon rain has taken a break in the state. The Meteorological Department had also issued an alert of heavy rain from July 11 to 13, but the alert was ineffective and the sun shone in most parts. The weather remained dry in Shimla and other districts on Sunday as well.
The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Himachal Pradesh from July 16 to 20, expressing the possibility of thunder and lightning in some places. During this period, light to moderate rain may occur in some areas of the state. But no warning has been given about heavy rain. If the department’s forecast is accurate, people will not have to face torrential rains for the next six days. Last year, monsoon rains had caused havoc in the state and people have not yet recovered from those wounds.
Shimla Meteorological Center Director Surender Paul said that the state has received less than normal monsoon rainfall so far. He said that there is no possibility of widespread rain in the state for the next five to six days.
There has been very little rainfall in the state in the last 24 hours. During this period, three millimeters of rain was recorded in Dalhousie, two in Jott, and one in Chamba.
The minimum temperature in Shimla on Sunday was recorded at 16.2 degrees Celsius, 20.8 degrees in Sundernagar, 19.6 degrees in Bhuntar, 13.6 degrees in Kalpa, 19.9 degrees in Dharamshala, 23.6 degrees in Una, 23.8 degrees in Nahan, 9.9 degrees in Kelong, 18 degrees in Palampur, 20.4 degrees in Solan and 14.7 degrees in Manali.
65 houses damaged, loss of Rs 176 crore in monsoon season
According to the State Emergency Operations Center, no incident of landslide, flash flood or flood has been reported in the state during the monsoon season in 16 days so far. However, due to the rains during this period, 65 kutcha-pucca houses have been damaged. Of these, 11 houses were completely destroyed, while 54 houses were partially damaged. Besides, four houses and 54 livestock sheds were also demolished. The loss during the monsoon season is estimated at Rs 176 crore. The Public Works Department has suffered the maximum loss of Rs 106 crore.
