Ahmedabad, September 3: The Ahmedabad city police have filed a chargesheet within 21 days of completing their investigation into an alleged rape case in the Anandnagar police station area. The investigation was based on forensic, circumstantial, and technical evidence.
The case involves a 22-year-old interior design student who was reportedly sexually assaulted on August 8 in a residential society in Ahmedabad. According to officials, the young woman was living as a paying guest and had gone to the terrace for a walk when the accused allegedly attacked and assaulted her. The accused has been identified as Dharm Singh.
Police reported that Singh had been hired as a security guard just days before the incident. Investigators tracked him down using CCTV footage and technical surveillance, with multiple teams from Anandnagar police, local crime branch, and crime branch involved in the search.
He was arrested shortly after the incident. The police also examined CCTV footage from the residential complex, which reportedly showed Singh heading towards the terrace from inside the building before the alleged attack. The woman was later taken to a hospital for treatment.
Subsequent investigations raised questions about the practices of the security agency that employed Singh. The Anandnagar police registered a separate case against the agency’s owner after investigators alleged that the agency’s license had expired and it had failed to comply with mandatory requirements for the recruitment and deployment of security guards under the Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act.
The chargesheet was filed within 21 days of the case being registered. The police stated that the investigation was completed swiftly based on forensic, circumstantial, and technical evidence.
In a statement, the police said, “The investigation was completed promptly based on forensic, circumstantial, and technical evidence, and the chargesheet was filed in court.” With the filing of the chargesheet, the police investigation concludes, and the evidence collected during the investigation is presented to the court for further action.
