Pune, September 4: The Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA), under the Ministry of Women and Child Development, successfully conducted its fourth Regional Consultative Workshop for the Western Zone in Pune, Maharashtra, on Thursday. This workshop was organized in collaboration with the Maharashtra government and the State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA).
The workshop is part of CARA’s ongoing efforts under the ‘Awareness Campaign on Adoption 2025’, focusing on promoting non-institutional rehabilitation for children with special needs (differently-abled children). The campaign aims to encourage family-based care and the adoption process, ensuring that children with special needs have opportunities to thrive in a safe, loving, and supportive family environment.
Given the vast geographical and administrative scope of the Western Zone, which includes Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, and the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, over 150 stakeholders from more than 74 districts participated in the workshop. This provided a crucial platform for regional dialogue, information sharing, and coordination on adoption and child rehabilitation matters.
Aditi Vardha Sunil Tatkare, the Minister of Women and Child Development in Maharashtra, addressed the stakeholders via video message, encouraging them to work together to strengthen the adoption framework and ensure better opportunities for children with special needs to find permanent, loving, and supportive family environments. She emphasized the importance of continuous collaboration, awareness, and coordinated efforts among stakeholders to advance family-based care and the comprehensive rehabilitation of differently-abled children.
During the session, Bhavna Saxena, CEO and Member Secretary of CARA, stressed the need for sustained and collaborative efforts to promote the adoption process for children with special needs. She highlighted that CARA’s outreach and advisory initiatives have contributed to strengthening the adoption framework and underscored the importance of ongoing coordinated efforts to enhance opportunities for permanent family care for these children.
