Kochi, February 26: The Kerala High Court has imposed a 15-day interim stay on the release of the film ‘Kerala Story 2’. The film, produced under the banner of Vipul Amrutlal Shah, was scheduled to hit theaters on February 27, but the court’s order has delayed its release.
The court issued this directive during a hearing on petitions filed against the film. Petitioners argued that the film’s subject and presentation could incite communal tension and disrupt public peace. Taking these arguments seriously, the court decided to halt the film’s release for the time being.
According to the court’s order, the film will not be released in any theater for the next 15 days. This decision comes as a significant setback for the filmmakers.
Advance bookings for the film had already begun in various parts of the country. However, this stay may lead to cancellations of advance bookings or refunds for tickets, raising concerns about potential financial losses for the film.
The controversy surrounding ‘Kerala Story 2’ began after the teaser was released on January 30. The film depicts the story of three Hindu girls (Ulkha Gupta, Aishwarya Ojha, and Aditi Bhatia) whose lives reveal a conspiracy of religious conversion following romantic relationships. The teaser shows the girls expressing their pain while wearing hijabs, culminating in the rallying cry, “We will no longer endure… we will fight.”
Kerala’s Chief Minister P. Vijayan has also expressed strong opposition to the film, labeling it as propaganda and a threat to secularism. He supported calls on social media platform X to boycott the film, stating, “The news regarding the release of the sequel to the hate-mongering film ‘The Kerala Story’ should be taken seriously. Kerala, having understood the communal agenda and blatant lies presented in the first part, has once again boycotted this attempt to tarnish secularism.”
He further remarked, “It is shocking that fabricated stories aimed at inciting communal riots are given a free pass, while critical artistic expression is suppressed. We must unite to oppose these attempts to turn our harmonious land into a hub of terror. The truth will always prevail.”
