IPL 2025: Sunrisers Hyderabad Eliminated from Playoff Race After Rain Washes Out Clash Against Delhi Capitals

Hyderabad, May 6 – The playoff hopes for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 officially came to an end after their crucial encounter against Delhi Capitals was abandoned due to persistent rain and a wet outfield at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Monday.

Sunrisers Hyderabad Eliminated from Playoff

With the match yielding no result, both teams were awarded one point each. The shared points scenario left SRH with only 7 points from 11 matches, mathematically eliminating them from the race to the top four. This marks Sunrisers Hyderabad as the third team to exit the playoff contention this season.

Bowling Brilliance Overshadowed by Rain

Despite the disappointment, SRH bowlers delivered a commendable performance before the rain took center stage. Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, captain Pat Cummins led from the front as Delhi’s top order crumbled under pressure.

Delhi’s innings began on a shaky note, losing five wickets for just 29 runs within the first 7.1 overs. Cummins dismissed Karun Nair in the opening over and followed it up by sending back Faf du Plessis and Abhishek Porel in quick succession. Harshal Patel and Jaydev Unadkat joined the attack, removing Axar Patel and KL Rahul respectively.

Stubbs and Ashutosh Rescue Delhi With Gritty Partnership

With Delhi Capitals in deep trouble, Tristan Stubbs and impact player Ashutosh Sharma stabilized the innings. Stubbs remained unbeaten on 41 off 36 balls, while Ashutosh contributed a valuable 41 off just 26 deliveries. Their crucial 66-run partnership propelled Delhi to a fighting total of 133 for 7 before the skies opened up.

However, persistent rain showers halted further play, leading the umpires to call off the match without resumption of the second innings.

Season Ends Early for SRH

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s campaign in IPL 2025 has been marked by inconsistency and narrow losses. Despite having a strong bowling unit and flashes of individual brilliance, the team failed to convert crucial moments into victories. With only three league games remaining, the franchise now looks ahead to building for the next season.

Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, remain in the hunt for a playoff berth, with the extra point proving vital in a tightly contested leaderboard.
