New Delhi: Ravindra Jadeja showcased his expertise on the tough Chepauk pitch as Chennai Super Kings returned to their winning form with a comfortable seven-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL play on Monday.
The victory was CSK’s third win in five games, all in Chepauk, after two consecutive home defeats.
Jadeja, whose spin bowling had seemingly calmed down in recent seasons, was dominant, taking three wickets from just eight deliveries and virtually destroying KKR’s batting line-up. KKR struggled with a total of 137/9 at a level that made it difficult to score freely.
Captain Rutoraj Gaikwad led the chase with 67 off 58 balls, supported by Daryl Mitchell (25 off 19 balls) and Shivam Dube (28 off 18 balls). CSK easily reached the target in 17.4 overs.
What mattered was the exact moment when Mahendra Singh Dhoni secured victory with his decisive run.
This game is typical of KKR’s playbook. They always use chokes with spinners on the surface holding the ball and then the top order controls the chase, but it’s manageable like Monday. It was within the framework.
Earlier, Jadeja had worked his magic and robbed KKR’s batting heart.
