iOS 18, the next major update to Apple’s iPhone operating system, was announced on June 10 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024, and the iPhone maker rolled out developer updates and public betas in the following weeks. These betas introduce new features, system improvements and bug fixes. The latest update is iOS 18 Developer Beta 4, which Apple released on Tuesday. There have been optimizations throughout the user interface (UI), additional customization options when your iPhone is connected to CarPlay, and improved RCS messaging support.
iOS 18 Developer Beta 4 Features
According to Apple’s changes for the iOS 18 Developer Beta 4 update, the latest update adds eight new light and dark wallpapers for CarPlay. Additionally, the “Control Menu” settings are now displayed under the “Preserve Settings” banner. Instead of displaying a list of tools, Apple says the feature “saves previously used camera tools.”
Apple also released the Flashlight UI introduced in the previous update of the iPhone 15 Pro models for iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. Meanwhile, users with an iCloud subscription will now see a new animation in the iCloud menu in iPhone Settings.
There are also changes to the design of hidden app folders, the Stock app icon, and the Next option in the Books app. Apple says users can now switch between light modes while maintaining the appearance of home screen icons in dark mode. The new Control Center also adds a Do Not Disturb/Silent option and an accessible ophthalmoscopy option.
Another notable change introduced in iOS 18 Developer Beta 4 is the improvement of RCS messaging. Following the update, RCS on iPhone is now supported by Fido and Rogers in Canada, Orange, Vodafone and Yoigo in Spain, and Orange and T-Mobile in the UK.
Apple’s latest beta update
In addition to developer beta 4 for iOS 18, Apple has also released fourth developer betas for iPadOS 18, macOS 15 Sequoia, visionOS 2, tvOS 18 and watchOS 11. In addition to the latest developer beta updates for Apple’s upcoming operating systems, the iPhone manufacturer has also released release candidates (RC) for iOS 17.6, iPadOS 17.6, watchOS 10.6, tvOS 17.6, macOS Sonoma 14.6 and visionOS 1.3.
