Heavy Rain in Pune Disrupts Life, 5 Dead, 20 Injured: Collector Jitendra Dudi

Pune, July 7: Heavy rainfall in Pune, Maharashtra, has severely disrupted daily life, leading to a red alert in the district for the past few days. The intense downpour has caused landslides, flooding, and road closures in several areas. The administration is actively engaged in relief and rescue operations. Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi provided detailed information about the situation and the administration’s preparedness.

Collector Dudi stated that over the last two days, more than 200 millimeters of rain has been recorded in various parts of the district, resulting in multiple landslides and road closures. Many individuals were stranded in different areas but were rescued safely by the administration through timely operations. Additionally, flooding conditions have emerged in several locations, prompting rapid relief efforts.

As of now, five fatalities have been reported due to landslides and other rain-related incidents, with around 20 individuals injured. Some casualties occurred due to landslides, while others were injured when a wall collapsed in one area, resulting in one death. There have also been reports of livestock casualties. Fortunately, those with minor injuries did not require hospitalization.

Dudi noted that heavy rainfall continues in the Lonavala region, with water levels rising steadily. In response, the administration has deployed an additional team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to the area. Relief and rescue operations are ongoing, and the administration is closely monitoring the situation.

With the pilgrimage to Dehu and Alandi set to begin, the administration has urged devotees to travel from designated stops within the Pune Metropolitan area or beyond, rather than heading directly to Dehu and Alandi, due to heavy rainfall and waterlogging.

The Collector emphasized that the arrangements could be affected by the lack of space and increased waterlogging at these locations. Therefore, devotees are requested to follow the administration’s advice to ensure a safe and smooth pilgrimage.

Currently, nine roads in the district have been closed as a precaution, including two major roads. A total of 22 landslide incidents have been reported, and relevant departments are working collaboratively to clear debris, reopen roads, and expedite relief efforts.
