Udaipur, September 1: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested a police constable and a local resident in Mehsana district of Gujarat for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹83,000. The operation took place at the Satlasana police station after a complaint was made to the bureau’s toll-free helpline 1064.
The accused have been identified as constable Kanji Chaudhary, stationed at the Satlasana police station, and Ashish Chaudhary, a resident of Chowdhari Vas in Nawawas-Rajpur.
According to the ACB, the entire bribe amount was recovered during the operation. The complaint stated that a gambling case had been registered against the complainant and several others at the Satlasana police station.
The ACB alleges that constable Kanji Chaudhary demanded ₹1 lakh from the complainant to prevent any physical harm to him and others when they appeared at the police station. After negotiations, the bribe amount was settled at ₹83,000, and the payment was agreed upon for Monday. Following this, the complainant contacted the ACB’s toll-free number to file a complaint.
Based on the complaint, the bureau set up a trap on Monday (August 31). During the operation, both accused remained in contact with the complainant over the phone and received the ₹83,000. The transaction occurred in a car belonging to a friend of the accused on a public road in front of Suraj Complex in Satlasana.
The ACB team apprehended the accused at the scene and seized the entire bribe amount. Authorities have stated that further legal action is being initiated in connection with this crime.
Officials mentioned that the trap was laid by Inspector D.B. Mehta and his team from ACB Field-3 in Ahmedabad. An investigation will determine if there have been similar cases involving the police officer in the past.
