Hasin Jahan Appeals to Transfer Case Against Shami to Delhi

New Delhi, February 18: The Supreme Court has issued a notice to cricketer Mohammad Shami in response to a petition filed by his wife, Hasin Jahan. She is seeking to transfer her domestic violence and maintenance case from Kolkata to Delhi.

In her application, Hasin Jahan stated that she has relocated to Delhi for her daughter’s better education, making it difficult for her to attend court hearings in West Bengal.

Hasin Jahan’s representatives argued that Mohammad Shami travels extensively across the country, providing him with ample resources and opportunities to fight the case in Delhi. Additionally, her family resides in Uttar Pradesh, which is closer to Delhi compared to Kolkata.

A few months ago, Hasin Jahan had also filed a petition in the Supreme Court requesting an increase in maintenance from ₹4 lakh to ₹10 lakh per month for herself and her daughter. The Supreme Court has issued a notice to Mohammad Shami and the West Bengal government, asking for their responses.

Mohammad Shami married Hasin Jahan in April 2014, and their daughter was born in July 2015. In 2018, Hasin Jahan accused Shami and his family of domestic violence, along with allegations of match-fixing and extramarital affairs.

The case was registered at the Jadavpur police station under various sections of the IPC, including 498A, 328, 307, 376, 325, and 34. She also filed a petition under Section 125 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) for maintenance.

Currently, Mohammad Shami is busy with the Ranji Trophy, where he recently took nine wickets while playing for Bengal against Jammu and Kashmir.
