New Delhi, February 18: Abhishek Sharma’s performance in the T20 World Cup 2026 has raised eyebrows as he has yet to score in the tournament. Having played two matches, the left-handed batsman returned to the pavilion without opening his account, including a dismissal for a ‘duck’ against Pakistan after facing four balls. However, former Indian spinner Piyush Chawla believes there is no cause for concern regarding Abhishek’s form.
In an interview with JioHotstar, Chawla stated, “Honestly, there is no reason to worry about Abhishek’s form, as we have all seen what he can do over the past 18 months. He is the type of batsman who plays with a lot of risks, which often pays off. With such players, you need to show a bit of patience.”
Chawla further explained, “As a bowler, the chances of making a mistake against Abhishek are very low. When the ball is in a two-meter slot, his strike rate tends to be the lowest. This usually happens when the ball is new and the bowler is trying to swing it. However, apart from that, his strike rate is generally quite high.”
It is noteworthy that under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, Team India has secured its place in the Super 8 by winning three consecutive matches. The Indian team is set to face the Netherlands in their final group stage match on Wednesday.
Chawla anticipates a possible change in Team India’s playing XI against the Netherlands, suggesting that Arshdeep Singh may return in place of Kuldeep Yadav.
