Udaipur : The Family Court at Rajsamand decreed annulment of a child marriage while deciding on a petition by the bride. 17-year old Priyanka Gurjar daughter of Suwalal resident Anjana village of Deogarh tehsil in Rajsamand had pleaded for the marriage annulment which she claimed was conducted against her will by her parents illegally as she was a minor then. The young bride pleaded that she was studying in school when her parents arranged her marriage with Nathulal son of Ambulal. ” It was done under Aata -saata custom wherein two families give in their daughters in marriage to each other. My brother wanted to marry a girl but the condition was that I had to marry the girl’s brother in return . I cried and urged my father not to hold my wedding but he didn’t listen” Priyanka said. She was forced to quit school. The marriage was held on April 28 last year and she was sent to her in-laws place where the girl suffered ill treatment at the hands of her new family. They planned to send her to Gujarat with her husband but Priyanka refused and returned to her parents place. However she was badly treated by her own parents and she had to flee from home. Upon a police complaint of abduction, Priyanka mustered courage and went to the police station where she narrated her story. The young girl was bold enough to tell the court that she didn’t want to live with her parents nor did she wished to live with her husband. ” Priyanka was sent to the state shelter home and she have been living here since. She put up a petition for marriage annulment, the defendants didn’t appear before the court and hence an ex-party decision has been made” Bhojraj Singh of Asra Vikas Sansthan, the state aided shelter home told Udaipur Kiran.
