Udaipur, May 5, 2026 (Udaipur Kiran): Renowned scientific vastu consultant, interior architect, and heritage conservationist Gaurav Singhvi has been honoured with the “Design Unfiltered” Award 2026 in the Hospitality Architecture category. The award was presented during the “Design Unfiltered Conclave – Udaipur Edition.”

Singhvi received the recognition for his work on the conservation and revival of a nearly 450-year-old fort located in the north-western region of Udaipur. The project focused on preserving the original identity of the structure by using local materials, traditional colours, and regional vegetation.
Around 30 percent of the damaged portions of the fort were reconstructed while maintaining its original design. More than 90 percent of the original structure was preserved without alteration, including walls, the main gate, and the overall spatial layout.
The restoration extensively used local materials such as stone and marble, along with traditional craftsmanship. Architectural elements like Kota stone lattices, traditional jharokhas, and heritage design features were incorporated. Natural colours such as yellow ochre were used, while interior walls featured traditional fresco art inspired by Mewari themes, including blue and deep pink tones and Krishna Leela motifs.
Existing trees were preserved and integrated into the design, while barren land was transformed into landscaped green spaces with natural pathways and gardens. Modern elements were thoughtfully adapted, such as designing an overhead water tank in the form of a traditional dome to maintain the skyline, and creating an open-to-sky swimming pool styled like an ancient stepwell using local materials.
The national-level conclave received over 175 entries across multiple categories, including residential, corporate, institutional, hospitality, and interior design. Out of these, only 39 projects were shortlisted for nomination.
Speaking on the achievement, Singhvi said that a true designer does not suppress heritage but brings it forward. He described the project as not just construction, but a responsible effort towards preservation and sensitive restoration.
