Udaipur: A history-sheeter, identified as Fardeen alias Ganja, was allegedly shot at in front of Savina police station in Udaipur at around 3 am on Sunday. The attackers fired three bullets, two of which struck his shoulder, while the third grazed his companion.
Fardeen was immediately admitted to MB Hospital. Around nine hours after the incident, both bullets were still lodged in his shoulder. His condition was reported to be serious.
Fardeen Names Two Suspects
According to Fardeen’s statement to police, his younger brother Ardeen had been attacked at Mahadev Hotel in Balicha on Saturday night. Fardeen had reached the police station early Sunday to file a report regarding the incident.
He said that after parking his vehicle outside the police station, Goga and Usman Ghani arrived in a car and opened fire. According to Fardeen, three shots were fired.
The firing is being viewed in connection with a possible gang rivalry. Fardeen named Muzzaffar alias Goga in connection with the shooting. He is also reportedly a history-sheeter. Police have not yet confirmed the involvement of other suspects.
Station House Officer Dalbir Singh said the firing incident was being investigated and police teams were searching for the accused.
Family Says Younger Brother Was Attacked First
Fardeen’s mother, Shabana Bano, said her younger son Ardeen had gone to Mahadev Hotel in Balicha for dinner on Saturday night. She alleged that Muzzaffar alias Goga, Mohsin and their associates attacked Ardeen there.
Ardeen managed to escape and informed his elder brother Fardeen about the incident over the phone. Fardeen then left for the area. During this time, the accused allegedly opened fire at him near a petrol pump in the Savina area.
Shabana Bano said she was unaware of the dispute between the two sides. She added that Fardeen had been released from jail around one-and-a-half months ago and had been living normally since then.
Firing During Election Model Code of Conduct
The incident has raised questions over law and order as the model code of conduct for local body elections is currently in force in Udaipur and other parts of Rajasthan.
The fact that the firing took place near the police station has also raised questions about police patrolling and security arrangements in the area.
Fardeen is reportedly facing around 15 criminal cases, including cases related to robbery, assault and violations under the Arms Act. More than 20 criminal cases are reportedly registered against Goga as well.
