Fire on Tata Nagar-Ernakulam Express Claims One Life

Visakhapatnam, December 29: A fire broke out on the Tata Nagar-Ernakulam Express near Yelamanchili in Andhra Pradesh early Monday morning, resulting in the death of one passenger. Following the incident, the South Central Railway (SCR) has issued several helpline numbers to assist passengers and provide information about train operations.

The helpline numbers released by SCR include 7815909386 for Yelamanchili, 7569305669 for Anakapalli, 7815909479 for Tuni, and 7382629990 for Samalkot. For Rajahmundry, the numbers are 088-32420541 and 088-32420543; for Eluru, 7569305268; and for Vijayawada, 0866-2575167.

According to a press release from SCR, the fire occurred around 12:45 am as train number 18189 approached Yelamanchili station. The fire affected coaches B1 and M2. Railway staff responded immediately, alerted the fire brigade, and helped passengers evacuate safely. The fire brigade arrived on the scene and extinguished the flames.

Railway officials stated that the damaged coaches were detached from the train. As a precaution, an additional AC 3-tier coach (M1) was also removed. The train is being taken to Samalkot station, where three empty coaches are being arranged to be attached. Meanwhile, passengers from the affected coaches are being transported by bus to Samalkot station.

The Railway Safety Commissioner, DRM Vijayawada, and senior officials are present at the site. The General Manager of South Central Railway is also en route to the location.

SCR said a forensic and medical team has been dispatched to investigate the cause of the fire and assess any casualties. Local authorities are coordinating with railway officials to ensure all necessary safety measures are taken.

Local police confirmed that a passenger’s body was recovered from one of the damaged coaches. The deceased has been identified as 70-year-old Chandrashekhar Sundaram from Vijayawada.
