Hindustan Zinc’s Yashad Bhavan Sets Sustainability Example, Retains LEED Platinum Rating
Udaipur, September 30, 2026: Hindustan Zinc Limited has retained the prestigious LEED Platinum certification for its corporate headquarters, Yashad Bhavan, in Udaipur. The achievement reflects the building’s environmental performance and the company’s continued commitment to sustainable development.
84 Points in LEED v4.1 Rating
Spread across more than 85,000 square feet, Yashad Bhavan scored 84 out of 100 under the LEED v4.1 Existing Building Operations and Maintenance rating system. The certification is awarded based on performance across parameters including energy efficiency, water conservation, indoor environmental quality, resource management and environment-friendly operations. LEED is one of the world’s leading green building rating systems.
Hindustan Zinc first received the Platinum rating for Yashad Bhavan in 2016 and has continued to maintain the certification.
The recertification reflects the adoption of environment-friendly practices in the company’s office operations. Yashad Bhavan has implemented several measures, including energy-efficient systems, water conservation initiatives, improved air quality, green cleaning practices, sustainable procurement and effective waste management.
The building achieved 95.5 per cent in Indoor Environmental Quality and 100 per cent in the Materials and Resources category. It also recorded 86.7 per cent in Water Efficiency, 80 per cent in Energy and Atmosphere, and 78.6 per cent in Location and Transportation.
Sustainability as a Foundation for Growth
Hindustan Zinc CEO Amarendu Prakash said sustainability is not merely a goal for the company but the foundation of its growth. He said retaining the LEED Platinum certification for Yashad Bhavan demonstrates the company’s continued commitment in this direction.
He added that the company is taking the same approach across its operational areas through renewable energy, resource reuse, water conservation and modern technologies so that development and environmental protection progress together.
Focus on Water and Clean Energy
The achievement at Yashad Bhavan also strengthens the company’s broader sustainability efforts. Hindustan Zinc is currently 3.32 times water positive and follows Zero Liquid Discharge practices across its operational areas.
Through water recycling, conservation and responsible water management, the company is working to conserve water resources. It has increased the share of clean energy in its energy mix to 22 per cent and aims to increase the share of renewable energy to 70 per cent by FY2028.
The company said these efforts are important steps towards achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 or earlier.
Biodiversity and Low-Carbon Initiatives
Hindustan Zinc is also promoting biodiversity conservation, ecological restoration, electric mobility and low-carbon logistics across its operational areas.
These initiatives are part of the company’s Sustainability Goals 2030, which focus on water conservation, climate action, a circular economy and responsible operations.
Hindustan Zinc was recognised as the world’s most sustainable metals and mining company for the third consecutive year in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment 2025. In 2025, the company also became the first Indian company to join the International Council on Mining and Metals.
