Hindustan Zinc’s Health Service Project Benefits Over 1,540 Rural People During Poshan Maah

Udaipur : Hindustan Zinc Limited conducted a month-long awareness campaign through its health service project in its operational areas of Rajasthan and Uttarakhand on the occasion of National Nutrition Month. The campaign was organised under the ‘Mera Gaon, Swasth Gaon’ initiative with the aim of raising awareness among rural communities about better nutrition, maternal and child health and preventive healthcare services.

During Poshan Maah, the company organised awareness sessions, counselling, demonstration activities and community programmes across various villages, reaching more than 1,540 people. More than 1,061 women and adolescent girls participated in the campaign and received important information related to maternal health, adolescent health and balanced nutrition.

Focus on Maternal and Adolescent Health

The campaign provided information on nutrition for pregnant women, children and adolescent girls, prevention of anaemia, the importance of breastfeeding, hygiene and healthy lifestyles. People were encouraged to adopt nutritious and healthy habits in their daily lives.

The campaign was conducted with the support of Panchayati Raj institutions, Community Health Officers, Integrated Child Development Services, the Education Department, Anganwadi workers, women supervisors and other health workers. Sessions organised under the ‘Mera Gaon, Swasth Gaon’ initiative focused on balanced diets, essential micronutrients, maternal nutrition and adolescent health. Special emphasis was placed on the importance of the first 1,000 days of a child’s life.

The sessions covered care during pregnancy, iron and calcium supplementation, breastfeeding and appropriate nutrition for children. Special sessions for adolescent girls focused on the consumption of iron-rich foods and the importance of adequate nutrition during this crucial stage of growth.

People were also encouraged to include local and seasonal foods in their diets. Information was provided about nutritious options such as millets, pulses, seasonal vegetables, fruits, milk and dairy products, dry fruits and seeds. They were also advised to reduce the consumption of sugary beverages, packaged snacks and highly processed foods.
