Abu Dhabi, May 17: A fire broke out on Sunday at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant located in the Al Dhafra region of the United Arab Emirates following a drone attack. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries.
The Abu Dhabi Media Office reported on X that the fire occurred in an electrical generator situated in the outer area of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant, caused by the drone attack. The blaze was contained outside the plant’s inner perimeter.
The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) confirmed that the fire did not affect the plant’s safety or essential systems, and all units are operating normally. Necessary precautionary measures have been implemented, and the public has been urged to rely solely on official sources for information and to avoid rumors.
No information was provided regarding the source of the drone attack.

According to the ministry, a total of 475 ballistic missiles, 23 cruise missiles, and 2,085 drones have been intercepted by the air defense systems to date.
