Indian Community Welcomes PM Modi in Gothenburg with Cultural Festivities

Gothenburg, May 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm welcome from the Indian community in Gothenburg, Sweden, during his visit on Sunday. The event featured a vibrant Bengali cultural program and a Bharatanatyam performance, which PM Modi praised enthusiastically.

On social media platform X, PM Modi expressed, “Bengali culture is popular worldwide, and Sweden is no exception. The community welcome event, attended by Prime Minister Kristersson, showcased the splendid Bengali culture.” He also shared glimpses of the cultural program.

The Indian community present in Gothenburg was thrilled to see PM Modi, highlighting his immense popularity even in Sweden. Many had traveled from afar just to catch a glimpse of him.

One community member shared their excitement, stating, “We were thrilled. We didn’t expect him to come so close to us, so when he got out of the car and approached where we were standing, it was a big surprise. It was an exhilarating experience to meet him personally.”

A woman from the Bengali community noted that PM Modi appeared very happy with their performance. After the show, he asked in Bengali, “Bhalo achen?” (Are you well?), which left her overwhelmed.

Another Bengali community member expressed her joy, saying, “I have never seen anything like this before. This was my first experience performing in front of him. It was a significant achievement for us. PM Modi came and spoke to us; it was a moment of immense joy.”

An individual from the Indian community in Sweden remarked, “We are very happy to see our Prime Minister because the partnership between Sweden and India is set to strengthen even further.”

A woman who has been living in Sweden for the past five years shared her excitement, stating, “Today, I am very thrilled. This is the first time I am seeing PM Modi. I am extremely excited.”

Another member of the Indian community in Gothenburg expressed pride, saying, “Today, I feel a great sense of pride. This was beyond my dreams. I never thought I would meet my Prime Minister here in a foreign land like Sweden. It was truly a proud moment, and I was almost in tears.”

Another woman from the Indian diaspora stated, “Today, we are welcoming PM Modi, which is an extremely proud moment for all Indians living in Sweden.”
