New Delhi, March 12: Every year, the second Thursday of March is celebrated globally as World Kidney Day, and this year it falls on March 12. The day aims to raise awareness about proper kidney care, the risks involved, and the timely identification of kidney-related diseases.
On this occasion, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) shared easy methods for kidney care and tips for recognizing diseases through social media. They emphasized, “Your kidneys silently work every day to maintain balance in your body, filter toxins, regulate fluids, and sustain overall health. This World Kidney Day, take some time to prioritize kidney care. Early awareness and timely care can help prevent serious complications.”
AIIMS focused on complications related to kidneys, such as chronic kidney disease, which affects one in ten individuals in the country. In this condition, the kidneys gradually lose their ability to function, leading to the accumulation of toxins in the body. Initially, chronic kidney disease may not show symptoms, but if it progresses, it can become incurable, leaving dialysis or transplantation as the last options.
The institute also shared tips for kidney care, including regular urine protein tests, blood pressure monitoring, and blood creatinine tests. Staying hydrated, maintaining a healthy weight, and avoiding unnecessary medication without medical advice are also crucial. Due to poor lifestyle choices, many people have become dependent on medications, often resorting to them without consulting a doctor for minor issues, which can severely impact kidney function. Regular check-ups and a balanced diet are essential for maintaining kidney health.
