Eva Women’s Hospital in Ahmedabad, a center of excellence for women’s healthcare, recently held a groundbreaking two-day workshop on endometriosis surgery, led by Dr. Dipak Limbachiya, a renowned advanced gynecological laparoscopic and oncological surgeon. This hands-on training, conducted on September 25 and 26, 2024, is the first officially declared endometriosis surgery training program in the world.
During the workshop, 17 complex endometriosis surgeries were performed by participating doctors under the guidance of Dr. Limbachiya. The surgeries included four resection and anastomosis procedures, one ureter repair, and 12 deep infiltrating endometriosis surgeries. The highlight of the event was the Grade 4 endometriosis surgery with bowel resection and anastomosis, a highly intricate procedure pioneered by Dr. Limbachiya.
“All the patients have been discharged and are doing very well. We are thankful to each one of them for this opportunity to serve them and express gratitude to the participating doctors for their service,” said Dr. Limbachiya.
The workshop featured four selected doctors, including one international participant and doctors from various parts of India. Its goal was to equip surgeons with the skills to handle endometriosis surgeries using advanced laparoscopic techniques.
Dr. Limbachiya, who has been conducting regular training sessions since 2012 and has trained over 2,400 doctors, emphasized the importance of hands-on training in advancing expertise in managing complex conditions like endometriosis. The workshop included live demonstrations and lectures, allowing participants to gain practical experience and insights into cutting-edge techniques and high-tech equipment.
“Training the next generation of laparoscopic surgeons is a commitment I hold close to my heart. It is immensely satisfying to watch fellow doctors learn about the newest advances in laparoscopy and improve their surgical skills, enabling them to provide enhanced care to their patients,” Dr. Limbachiya said.
The successful event marks a significant milestone in the training of medical professionals in endometriosis surgery, furthering the skills necessary to offer advanced care to patients with this challenging condition.
