Daily Habits Can Raise Cholesterol — Ayurveda Explains How to Control It Naturally

New Delhi, October 28 (Udaipur Kiran). Cholesterol is essential for the body as it helps in the formation of cells, hormones, and vitamin D. However, when its level exceeds the required limit, it turns harmful. Excess cholesterol accumulates in the arteries, leading to blockages, heart disease, and even stroke.

Cholesterol

In Ayurveda, high cholesterol is known as Medha Dhatu Vikara, a condition that occurs when body fat increases and the digestive fire (Agni) becomes weak.

Causes of Rising Cholesterol
The primary reasons for elevated cholesterol include frequent consumption of fried and junk food, excessive intake of oil and ghee, lack of physical activity, stress, smoking, alcohol, and insufficient sleep. As a person ages, the body’s metabolism slows down, causing fat to accumulate more easily.

Ayurvedic Remedies for Cholesterol Control
Ayurveda offers several simple and effective natural remedies to control cholesterol:

  • Garlic: One of the most powerful remedies. Eating 2–3 raw garlic cloves on an empty stomach helps thin the blood and reduce bad cholesterol levels.

  • Amla (Indian Gooseberry): Strengthens the liver and prevents fat accumulation. Take one teaspoon of dried amla powder with lukewarm water daily.

  • Fenugreek Seeds (Methi Dana): Reduces fat absorption. Consume one teaspoon of fenugreek powder on an empty stomach in the morning.

  • Coriander Seeds: Boil coriander seeds in water and drink twice a day to naturally lower cholesterol.

  • Giloy and Black Pepper: Mix both powders in equal quantity and take twice daily to eliminate body toxins and strengthen the liver.

Lifestyle Changes Are Equally Important
Regular exercise and mindful living are key to maintaining healthy cholesterol levels. Walk at least 30 minutes daily, practice yoga or pranayama, manage stress, and ensure proper sleep. Avoid smoking and alcohol completely. Simple lifestyle changes, such as using stairs instead of lifts, also make a difference.

Dietary Recommendations
Include fresh fruits, green vegetables, whole grains, and oats in your diet. Avoid processed and fried foods as much as possible.

For those with high cholesterol, Ayurvedic medicines such as Arjuna Churna, Triphala Churna, and Yograj Guggul may be beneficial when taken under proper guidance.

Ayurveda emphasizes that maintaining balance in diet, routine, and mindset is the true way to keep the heart and body healthy.
