New Delhi, February 15: The body of 22-year-old Indian student Saket Srinivasan has been recovered in California, USA, after he had been missing for six days. Saket was originally from Karnataka and was pursuing a master’s degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley.
He was last seen on February 9, approximately one kilometer from the university campus. A city-wide search operation was launched to locate him, which included extensive searches around Anja Lake and the Berkeley Hills.
The Indian Consulate in San Francisco confirmed that local police had found his body. The consulate stated that they would provide all possible assistance to the family and are making arrangements to send the mortal remains back to India as soon as possible. They expressed deep condolences to the family through a message on the social media platform ‘X’ and assured cooperation in all formalities.
During the search operation, Saket’s backpack was found near a house close to the university, in the Tilden Regional Park area. The backpack contained his passport and laptop.
Saket was a former student of IIT Madras and completed his schooling at Shri Vani Education Centre in Bengaluru. He was approximately six feet one inch tall, weighed around 160 pounds, and had short black hair and brown eyes.
He was one of six inventors associated with a patent for a “Microchannel Cooling System for Hyperloop.” Friends and colleagues described him as intelligent, humble, talented, and reliable.
The Indian consulate has assured that they will provide all possible support to the family during this difficult time.
