Banswara, (Kiran News): Rajasthan’s southern district, Banswara, is on track to become the next gold hub of the state. Along with Jagpura and Bhukhiya, preparations are now underway for gold mining at Kankaria in Ghatol. Gold ore indications have been found in about 3 square kilometres of this region.

The Department of Mines had earlier floated tenders for exploration in this area, but these were cancelled due to technical reasons. Officials believe that fresh tenders will be released soon, paving the way for mining here as well. Mining engineer Gaurav Meena stated that all decisions related to mining remain under the authority of the headquarters.
What is Exploration?
Before mining, exploration is conducted to understand the actual status of the ore. This includes geological surveys, testing soil, water, and rock samples, and studies using satellite and aerial photographs. When required, drilling is carried out to collect core samples for laboratory analysis. These methods help in accurately estimating the quantity, quality, and depth of the mineral.
Awaiting Mining License
The discovery of gold deposits in the district was made in surveys conducted in 1990-91. Considering the approximately 10 square kilometres of gold reserves found in Jagpura-Bhukhiya, the government has started the process to issue mining licenses. Tests have revealed 1.945 grams of gold per ton of ore here. It is estimated that the area holds nearly 120 tonnes of gold, which could generate revenue worth thousands of crores. The mining company selected through the tender process has already deposited Rs 170 crore for the license with the government and is now awaiting the mining license.
The gold mining project is being viewed as a boon for the tribal area. These mines are expected to increase government revenue and create new employment opportunities for local youth. Mining-related companies and ancillary industries are also expected to arrive, driving overall economic growth in the region. Experts believe Rajasthan will soon become a major gold-producing state in India, after Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, with many industries likely to be established following the commencement of gold mining.
