According to Bloomberg’s Mark Garman, the Apple Watch Series 10 could have a much larger display than the company’s current-generation models. The smartwatch is expected to be announced later this year as a successor to the Series 9 model launched in 2023 and may not feature previously reported changes, such as the watch’s magnetic strap mechanism. Meanwhile, the company is said to be developing a new Apple Watch SE with a plastic case that will compete with Samsung’s new Galaxy Watch FE model.
The Apple Watch Series 10 has a larger screen and a faster processor
In the latest edition of its weekly Power On newsletter, Garmin said that the Apple Watch Series 10 will feature a larger screen than the Series 9 model. It will be available in two sizes, codenamed N217 and N218, one of which is said to have a larger screen.
Cupertino’s largest smartwatch model, the Apple Watch Ultra 2, comes in a 49mm size and features a 1.92-inch display. It is currently unknown whether the Apple Watch Series 10 will have a larger display than the Watch Ultra 2. Recently leaked CAD renders suggest that the Series 10 model could feature a 2-inch display.
According to Garmin, the Apple Watch Series 10 will feature the same processor as the third-generation Apple Watch Ultra models. While Apple’s smart features aren’t expected to appear in the company’s smartwatches any time soon, he said the new chip will lay the foundation for AI-based features “in the future.”
Apple Watch Series 10 health features
Garmin said that while improvements are being made to features such as sleep apnea detection and blood pressure monitoring, Apple’s 10-series models are unlikely to include them, and the company is said to face “several significant hurdles.” We’re also wondering how Apple will support the sleep apnea feature in the US, as it relates to the blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) monitoring feature, which is currently banned. Therefore, it is currently unclear whether this will be the case or not
Likewise, the high blood pressure detection feature was not as reliable as the company had hoped during testing. This means the feature may not be available on devices launching later this year. Instead, Garman said the company could delay its launch beyond this year and show blood pressure trends (similar to body temperature monitoring) instead of precise readings.
To save costs, the Apple Watch SE may have a plastic case
To compete with the Samsung Galaxy Watch FE, which starts at $199 (around Rs 16,600), the iPhone maker is reportedly developing a new Apple Watch SE model that uses a plastic casing instead of aluminum.
Apple released the last updated version of its Watch SE model in 2022, and the third generation could be unveiled later this year. However, it is currently unclear whether the switch to a new material for the smartwatch’s casing will result in a price drop, but further details about the alleged device are likely to emerge in the coming weeks ahead of the expected launch
