According to a report in The Information, Apple plans to launch a new ultra-thin iPhone model in 2025 as part of the iPhone 17 series. The new device is expected to feature a “significant redesign” and could be placed at the top of the lineup, even above the iPhone Pro Max.
Sources have told The Information that the new iPhone models will be significantly thinner than current iPhones and may feature an aluminum body. The device is also rumored to feature a smaller dynamic island notch for the front camera and sensors. Screen sizes range from 6.12 inches to 6.69 inches.

According to another person with direct knowledge of the redesign, the new iPhone model’s rear camera could move from the top left corner to the top center of the back of the device. Additionally, the phone will come with Apple’s latest A19 processor and an improved front camera for better video calls and selfies.
The report notes that Apple is still testing various designs for a slimmer iPhone, which could delay the device’s launch beyond 2025. The new model is expected to be more expensive than the current iPhone Pro Max, starting at $1,199.
The report confirms previous rumors from Apple supply chain analyst Jeff Pogue and display industry expert Ross Young that they are planning a slimmer 6.5-inch iPhone model for 2025. He said it was under development. Poe called this device the “iPhone 17 Slim”.
This is an interchangeable model
This information also suggests that the launch of this high-end model could lead to the discontinuation of the iPhone Plus production line, which reportedly sold less than expected. The iPhone Plus series, due out in 2022, is an option for customers who want a larger screen without upgrading to a more expensive Pro model.
If the rumors are true, this new ultra-thin iPhone model could mean a big change for Apple’s iPhone lineup. It’s reminiscent of the launch of the iPhone X in 2017, which brought big improvements like Face ID, an OLED display and the removal of the home button.
