Banswara : The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday caught a head constable and a constable red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 in Banswara district.

Acting on directions from the ACB headquarters, the ACB Banswara unit arrested Surendra Singh, Head Constable No. 664, and Jaipal Singh, Constable No. 878, posted at Chhoti Sarwa Police Outpost under Patan Police Station, Banswara, while taking the bribe amount.
According to the ACB, a complaint was received stating that a dispute had taken place involving an acquaintance of the complainant, during which the complainant’s private vehicle was damaged. The damaged vehicle was kept at Patan Police Station. After an FIR was registered based on the acquaintance’s complaint, the investigation was assigned to Head Constable Surendra Singh, posted at Chhoti Sarwa Police Outpost.
It was alleged that the head constable demanded a bribe through his munshi, Constable Jaipal Singh, in return for preparing the file to ensure compensation for the vehicle damage and for handing over the vehicle to the complainant. The complainant was allegedly harassed for the bribe amount.
On January 30, 2026, the ACB conducted verification of the bribe demand, during which Head Constable Surendra Singh demanded the bribe amount for Constable Jaipal Singh. During verification, Constable Jaipal Singh also gave his consent to accept the bribe.
Following this, under the supervision of ACB Deputy Inspector General Dr Rameshwar Singh and led by Additional Superintendent of Police Rishikesh Meena, the ACB team carried out a trap operation on Friday. Constable Jaipal Singh was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 2,000 as bribe. Head Constable Surendra Singh was present at the spot during the operation.
As the case under investigation was under the charge of Head Constable Surendra Singh and his involvement in the demand and acceptance of bribe emerged during questioning, he was also detained by the ACB.
Under the supervision of Inspector General of Police Rajesh Singh, further questioning and legal action against the accused are underway. Searches are also being conducted at the residences of both accused personnel. The ACB has registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation is in progress.
